Every Friday, 1:00pm - 2:00pm.
We teach two Buddhist meditation practices: Mindfulness of Breathing, for developing awareness, integration and clarity of mind; and Mettā Bhāvanā (“development of loving kindness”), which brings about a gentle but radical transformation of our emotional world. Each week we alternate between the two practices.
We will help you to set up in good posture and give a fully led practice, so there is no need for any previous experience.
Crèche facilities are available to supervise children while you meditate. Children of all ages are welcome, but as spaces are limited and the crèche may not run every week, depending on staff availability, so booking in advance is necessary. Please contact us at least 1 day in advance to book a place:
Only if you'd like to use the crèche, otherwise, no, just turn up. Booking for the crèche is essential as spaces are limited and it may not run every week.
Children of all ages are welcome, but we have limited spaces, especially for children younger than two years old.
There's no special requirements, just whatever is comfortable to sit in.
We start fairly promptly 1pm. You're welcome to arrive any time from 12:45pm, but please try to not arrive before then as the team may still be setting up.
The class is especially suited for people who are completely new to meditation, and suitable for everyone, regardless of your religious beliefs.
We don't charge for our classes, and the team are not paid for their time. We simply ask that those who are able to do so make a donation to the centre to help us cover our running costs.
The suggested amount, based on how many people come and how much it costs to run the centre, is £5, but this is not a fixed cost and everyone is equally welcome, even if you cannot give anything at all.
We can take donations by card or cash.
We're just off St. Botolph's Roundabout, across from the Colchester Town Station, just to the left of Mersea Road. Parking is available in Napier Road Car Park (first right off Mersea Road), a few minutes walk away, for £1.Find Us
We were greeted by Amalaketu, who runs most of what the centre does, and also the Saturday morning class. He welcomed us into their session so warmly, and taught us a lot in that small amount of time about meditation, awareness, a few teachings and so much more.
Absolutely love this place - highly recommend to anyone who wants to explore the art of meditation.
What a wonderful atmosphere that's been created here. I went to the lunchtime drop in meditation yesterday as my first visit and really enjoyed the experience! Everyone made me feel welcome and the meditation was explained and guided brilliantly. Also a lovely selection of books!
Absolutely lovely location and place to reconnect. So many purposeful and good services are offered here. Great location and a big place too - lovely staff and incredibly humble, kind and helpful. A must visit.
A warm, welcoming, calm and relaxed atmosphere. The Buddhist Centre offers the perfect antidote to the hectic modern lives that we lead.
A warm, friendly, supportive, and mentally stimulating environment. The meditation practices I have learned and the study classes I have attended have radically transformed my life for the better.
